About me

Name: Jacob Roeland
Aliases: Jacroe, TheNewEA
Home: Louisville MS
Age: 16 (Birthday: Jan 14, 1992)
Email: I do use the e-mail

As you already know, my name is Jacob Roeland. I attend Nanih Waiya Attendence Center in the Nanih Waiya community outside of Louisville, MS. I am in the 11th grade this year. I'm taking two online classes: Spanish II and Web Design I, though it doesn't start til spring. At school, I am the resident computer geek guru and help my principal/secretary/teachers with their problems.

Beliefs

I am a strong believer that age is just a number and that one should judge someone by their maturity. As a youth myself, I believe I should be allowed the same opportunities for advancement as a 40-year-old. I say advancement because I don't believe that youth should be allowed to drink, smoke, dip, chew, etc until they are the legal age. What do I mean by advancement then? If a 25-year-old and I both apply to be a librarian assistant, I don't believe that I should be turned down because he is older than me. If I get turned down because he has more experience than me, so be it. But just because I am younger, doesn't mean that I am not as good or better than him.

I also like to make people think. One of my posts actually contain a good bit of random knowledge snuck inside. For example, there's the Infinite monkey theorem stating that "that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare." It also includes a link to one of the myths proved plausible by MythBusters.

Hobbies

I like long walks on the beach. I enjoy quotes, which is why you have two sets delivered to you at lightning speed. One, shown at the top, displays quotes that I have heard from my friends or famous quotes like those of Alan Alda and Morgan Freeman. In the right sidebar is another set, displaying a couple of hilarious one-liners that I have picked from friends on IRC or elsewhere.

Something else I like to do is web design, which is made evident through this site (though I use the term web "design" loosely; I actually would rather code then design). I wrote my own blog software, my own Twitter parser, and one of the random quote engines. I also wrote a weather script. I license everything under the GNU General Public License as I believe that software should be like science, free to modify, redistribute, and copy at one's own will. Everything on my site is Free Software (free as in speech, not free as in beer). If you see something on here not free software, drop me a line using the email link above.
