All is lost

Today, I found out that my calendar service I Want Sandy will be going offline. :( This sucks. And this isn't the only bad thing that's happened with my organization structure. Jott went public a while back and is now charging for being able to send hands-free email and text to others. I'm trying to find an alternative to Sandy as I really like being able to just tweet or text her something and she'll take care of it for me. I don't have to remember anything anymore. Oy.

Stikkit is also going offline as it was part of the same company that hosted Sandy. I was hoping to write a program using the Stikkit API. Now, I'm not going to be able to do that either. Everything is moving over to Twitter though I'm not sure what will be kept and what will be thrown away. If Twitter keeps both services up and running, I shall do a small dance. More than likely however, they'll trash both and just use a small portion of code out of both for their service. Oh, this sucks.

Ubuntu

By: Jacroe November 13, 2008
I am pleased to say that I finally completed the jump into the Free Software universe: I have installed a libre (though it is gratis too) operating system called Ubuntu. It is quite different than Windows though Mac users won't be too surprised by the file system. For example, there is no "Local Disk". It's called "home". This also effects the document's location. In Windows, a document that is located on the desktop might have a location of "C:/Documents and Settings/Jacob/Desktop/foo.doc". In Ubuntu, however, the file would be "/home/jacob/Desktop/foo.doc".

Unfortunately, I cannot completely move over to Ubuntu yet. I have hundreds of documents stored on my Windows that have to be moved over. I also can only have wireless internet in Windows ( :( ) though I'm working on getting it to work in Ubuntu. I also can't print yet, though I am also working on it.

With so much to work on you might wonder why I even moved over? Well, it's an ethical decision. Software should be free to move around and be changed by anyone. Read the wikipedia article for more information about why I, and millions more, have switched.

The Updates Keep Comin'

This is the first time I've ever used an apostrophe in the title. Let's hope that Ignition doesn't break. :)

Well, in case you didn't know (and I didn't expect you to) Canada's elections are over. Conservatives, led by Stephen Harper, win a minority, defeating Stéphane Dion's Liberals by larger margins than the 2006 federal election. The BQ loses two seats; the NDP significantly improve their fourth-place position by taking several Liberal seats. Yeah.

My website's status in the sidebar is stressing my out as I have already made evident. I've signed up with Identi.ca so as soon as they can pull over all of my old tweets, I'm moving over to them. Which means rewriting the Twitter Getter. Again, though this time I might use the RSS feed instead of grabbing directly from the profile page.

I took the PSAT today. I think I did all right though I'm not sure about some of those questions.

I've discovered how to run. Of course, one must put one foot ahead of the other in a speedy manner, but I've discovered how to run mentally. I simply say my ABCs. Seriously. If I can say them over and over, my mind will be distracted by the task of saying them so it won't recognize the pain building up in my knees and ankles.

Bea is coming along nicely. If you wish to help beta test it, I would be obliged. Just drop a comment below. ^_^
