mFUGE 2008

By: Jacroe July 26, 2008

This year for church camp, we went back to Mississippi College for mFUGE. There we signed in and planned our track times. Warner, Mallory, and I got Children's Ministry while Fay and Lane got Social. Daniel and Amanda worked with Creative.

Basically our group, which was named Gabon (groups this year were named after countries), went to a multiplex center called "Mission First". Many different groups went there. For example, some kids (not campers) went there to go play basketball in the gym or some went for OASIS. That's where we worked at. OASIS (and what the acronym means slips my mind) is basically a church for children during the summer. They have a bible lesson, music, recreation in a playground (that puts the one in McDonald's to shame), and crafts. So it was kind of like a Vacation Bible School.

Gabon (the group) was divided up into four smaller groups that worked on specific tasks throughout the day, such as a bible story group, craft group, etc. The first day, we had a playground where we played with the kids in there. Next day was bible story. The third day, we had a water day so everyone was outside. And the last day, our smaller group did the music.

Leaving Mission First and OASIS was really hard come the last day. There were tears shed by many in our group, including our leader who spent her entire summer with these kids. The kids themselves had a hard time letting go. I actually had to pry off one kid's hands from around my neck so that I could leave.

Apart from all the sadness, we had an awesome time at camp. All of us got something from this camp that we wish to add to our lives.
