ReMixing

By: Jacroe January 10, 2009

Well I started to listen to my favorite podcast when I noticed that they used another Creative Commons work called Wadidyusay? and so went to the website where it was hosted to listen to it. I then saw in the header something about Stephen Colbert. I clicked it and started listening to it. It was about ReMixing and and some guy named Lessig in it being interviewed. I went to the guy's website and watched the interview on YouTube. You can watch it, too.

Well of course if Stephen Colbert says not to do something, it's going to be done anyways either in spite of him saying it or because he said it. Here's the first remix that was made. You don't need to watch it unless you watched the interview.

Yeah it is funny. But it also has a good point. Remixing is basically taking someone else's work, adding on to it, and then releasing it (either for profit or for free). Ever edited Wikipedia? Then you've remixed something. How did this cultural phenomenon come to be? It's all because of a man named Richard Stallman. Read his biography here. You'll become more knowledgeable about Free Software and become more like me. ;) Isn't that a good thing.
